Shillong, Oct 5: Health department has launched a survey following a High Court observation about increase in respiratory illnesses due to pollution in Byrnihat industrial region in Ri-Bhoi district.
Authorities have been directed to conduct survey on the health issues in the area, Health Minister Wailadmiki Shylla said on Monday.
“We have not got the final report, we have directed the authorities,” Shylla said.
Stating that such a trend was not noticed earlier, the minister said the Health department is yet to receive the report on the survey.
The minister said work is in progress to upgrade health infrastructure in the area.
“We have decided to upgrade the present PHC to CHC. We are already on it to upgrade the infrastructure,” Shylla said.
