SHILLONG, AUG 28: Deputy Chief Minister Prestone Tynsong on Wednesday informed the Assembly that the proposal for creating a new district in East Khasi Hills and Mawsynram civil sub-division is still being examined.
Tynsong said that the government is also considering a proposal for creation of new community and rural development (C&RD) blocks.
“The main intention of the government is to bring administration towards the nearest location of the people,” he said in reply to a question raised in the Assembly.
TMC legislator from Nongthymmai Charles Pyngrope advised the government to keep in mind that East Khasi Hills district is the biggest in the entire state.
UDP legislator Mawsynram Ollan Sing Suin on the other hand said that Mawsynram deserved to be granted a civil sub-division as its population is bigger than Pynursla and Ranikor and that many villages are situated in difficult terrains.
“Therefore, it is only a civil sub division that can bring administration closer to the people,” he asserted.
In response to this, the deputy chief minister reiterated that the proposal for creation of Mawsynram civil sub-division is being examined in detail by the government after which an announcement will be made on the outcome.
