Shillong, Nov 3: The state government is planning to launch Mission IV to upgrade infrastructure in 15,000 elementary schools across the state, Education Minister Lahkmen Rymbui said on Monday.
Asserting the government’s focus on upgrading school infrastructure, the minister said the government has invested in Mission I, II, and III, and plans to launch Mission IV.
Around 15,000 elementary schools are being taken up for infrastructure ungradation in the state, he said.
The government plans to upgrade 150 schools, including 15 under the Asian Development Bank (ADB) programme, and repair over 160 schools.
“This is the first government which recognises that infrastructure of the school is also linked to the quality education of the children,” Rymbui told reporters.
“Our intention is to see that all infrastructure used to teach the children should be proper and meet all criteria needed for the true development of the children,” he added.
Stating that improving infrastructure is a continuous process, Rymbui said, “It is not a question of 100 or 1000 schools, it is a question of 15,000 schools – private, government, government aided, deficit, etc.”
