Hawker relocation to take place in phased manner: Dy CM

Shillong, Jan 31: The relocation of hawkers and street vendors in various locations across Shillong will take places in a phased manner.

The government has taken the decision following the recent successful relocation of street vendors from Shillong Civil Hospital to a nearby designated vending zone.

“The government will take similar steps in all locations… We will do it in a phased manner and after thorough consultation with the hawkers and respective headmen of those particular localities,” said Sniawbhalang Dhar, Deputy Chief Minister in charge of Urban Affairs.

Dhar emphasized that the government is committed to ensuring a smooth transition, stating, “We will do it in such a manner that no one should have any problem”.

On the proposed relocation of hawkers from Laitumkhrah area, Dhar said, “In a short time, we will do it… We have already identified the place, but it is not appropriate for me to give you the exact location as we have not yet finalized the locations”.
