Shillong, Aug 10: The Meghalaya High Court has listed a PIL on illegal coal mining for detailed hearing on August 31, 2026.
After a hearing on the PIL, the order was issued by a division bench of Justice HS Thangkhiew and Justice W Diengdoh.
The state government submitted its status report on 38th Interim Report of Justice BP Katakey (Retd.) Committee on July 6, and a brief report on 39th Interim Report dated July 3 in the court.
While briefing the Court on the state’s compliance with the Committee’s recommendations, Advocate General A Kumar sought permission to file a more detailed report on the 39th Interim Report before the next date.
The Bench said both interim reports will be considered together with the status reports, and posted the matter for “a detailed hearing before appropriate orders are passed.”
The Katakey Committee continues to monitor mining, transportation and environmental issues related to coal in Meghalaya.
