PRIME-aided enterprise from Riangdo opens outlet in city

Shillong, Aug 10: A food brand born at Riangdo, a remote region in West Khasi Hills, made its way all the way to the capital Shillong.

Incubated under PRIME Meghalaya, Angie Shirhabs, opened its first retail outlet at Nongthymmai on Monday.

The enterprise, founded by Angielorita Iawphniaw, began as a small-scale food-processing venture in 2022 and has since grown into a structured FMCG business built around Meghalaya’s local produce.

Its range includes juices and ready-to-serve drinks from strawberry, sohiong and mulberry; mulberry and carambola squash; fruit jams; pickles made from bamboo shoot, mango, king chilli and local chilli; ginger powder; gooseberry candy; and its flagship premium chicken pickle.

Speaking at the event, Iawphniaw credited PRIME and the state government for the growth.

“With the support of PRIME and the Government of Meghalaya, I am able to see this day come to fruition. I got all the required support and guidance,” she said.

She was also a winner of the CM’s e-Championship and received a grant of Rs 1 lakh.

In his address, Joel Dkhar, Assistant Professor of Shillong Commerce College, lauded PRIME Meghalaya for supporting entrepreneurs like Iawphniaw, and said the state’s incubation ecosystem has helped raise standards for local businesses under the leadership of Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma.

From a revenue of ₹0.50 lakh in FY 2022–23, Angie Shirhabs has grown to Rs 3.5 lakh in FY 2025–26.

The brand now serves customers in Riangdo, Nongstoin, Mairang and Shillong, and has secured bulk orders from MSRLS.

It currently employs three persons directly.

Under PRIME’s incubation, the enterprise received mentorship in operations, pricing, packaging, branding, marketing, and regulatory compliance.
