Tura, July 9: Monsoon rain continues to lash South West Garo Hills district, damaging road infrastructure in several areas across the district and prompting the district administration to urge residents to remain vigilant and stay indoors.
No human casualties, livestock deaths, crop losses, or damage to drinking water and communication infrastructure have been reported so far.
According to the District Disaster Management Authority, road connectivity has been affected along the Silkona–Tikrikilla Road in the Mahendraganj area, the Lokaichar–Kalaipara Road, and the Garobadha–Dalu Road near Km 52 due to landslides and erosion triggered by heavy rainfall.

Another stretch at Kotchu Adok on the Purakhasia–Dalu Road has also sustained significant damage following incessant rain. Authorities said urgent restoration is required to prevent disruption to the movement of commuters and essential services.
Officials said a road blocked by a landslide has been partially cleared, allowing traffic to resume, while restoration of damaged road embankments will begin once floodwaters recede and weather conditions improve.
The district administration said no relief distribution has been required as there have been no reports of casualties or widespread damage. It added that the situation is being monitored round the clock through the 24×7 District Control Room in coordination with the concerned departments to ensure the earliest possible restoration of road connectivity.
Residents have been urged to remain vigilant and promptly report incidents of flooding, landslides, road blockages, or any other emergencies to the district authorities for immediate assistance.
