Ampati, June 14: A wild elephant reportedly damaged a house and household property at Joyfar village under Betasing C&RD Block in South West Garo Hills late on Friday night. The inmates of the house managed to flee to safety.
The incident occurred at around 11:00 PM on June 13, when the elephant entered the premises of a resident, identified as Smt. Ketaki Hajong. According to official reports, the animal severely damaged the family’s kitchen, household utensils, and an attached storeroom.
The affected household consists of six members, including two adults and four children. No injuries were reported, and all family members escaped unharmed.
Officials stated that no immediate relief assistance is required at present. However, the concerned authorities are assessing the extent of the damage and will take necessary steps for appropriate assistance and follow-up action.
The incident once again highlights the continuing challenge of human-elephant conflict in parts of the Garo Hills region.
