99.62% voters covered so far ** Draft electoral roll on August 5
Shillong, July 28: The house-to-house enumeration drive for the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls will conclude in Meghalaya on Wednesday with the exercise covering 99.62 per cent voters so far.
Enumeration forms have been distributed to 2,340,764 electors out of the state’s total electorate of 2,349,645.
“The remaining electors could not be traced during the exercise,” Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) Dr BDR Tiwari told reporters on Tuesday.
Of the 2,278,071 enumeration forms received so far, accounting for 96.95 per cent of the total electorate, have already been digitised.
The remaining forms will be digitised within the prescribed timeline before the publication of the draft electoral roll on August 5, the CEO said.
Meanwhile, 2,24,435 forms, representing 9.55 per cent of the total, are yet to be geographically mapped, with Ri-Bhoi recording the highest percentage of unmapped forms at 23.45 per cent, followed by South West Khasi Hills at 14.53 per cent.
Ten of Meghalaya’s 12 districts have achieved 100 per cent distribution of Enumeration Forms, while East Khasi Hills continues to be the state’s largest electoral district with 6,32,146 electors, senior election officials said.
Earlier, the CEO held a review meeting with representatives of recognised national and state political parties to brief them on the progress of the revision exercise and the roadmap leading up to the publication of the draft roll.
Dr Tiwari said political parties have extended full cooperation throughout the process, with more than 1,600 Booth Level Agents (BLAs) deployed across the state to assist election officials.
“We are deeply appreciative of their participation and constructive suggestions throughout the entire SIR process,” he said, adding that no complaints have been received from any political party regarding the revision exercise.
The CEO said regular review meetings and weekly video conferences are being held with District Election Officers (DEOs), Electoral Registration Officers (EROs) and Assistant Electoral Registration Officers (AEROs) to ensure the exercise is completed in accordance with the Election Commission of India (ECI) guidelines.
Following the publication of the draft electoral roll on August 5, electors and political parties will be given an opportunity to file claims and objections before the final electoral roll is published.
