James nominated as special invitee to JPC on FCRA

Shillong, Sept 16: Rajya Sabha MP James PK Sangma has been nominated as a special invitee to the Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC) to examine the crucial Foreign Contribution (Regulation) Amendment (FCRA) Bill, 2026.

The Bill was referred to the JPC comprising 21 members from the Lok Sabha and 10 from the Rajya Sabha for detailed examination.

Inclusion of the Meghalaya MP in the panel signifies the weightage accorded to Meghalaya in the deliberations that would be crucial in deciding on the proposed amendments.

The Committee headed by BJP MP Dr Sanjay Jaiswal has been asked to submit its report to the Lok Sabha by the last day of the first week of the Winter Session of Parliament, 2026.

The JPC, which will scrutinise the proposed amendments, will hold its first meeting on September 18 where representatives of the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) will brief members on the Bill.

The Foreign Contribution Regulation framework governs the receipt and utilisation of foreign contributions by eligible individuals, associations and organisations in India. MHA administers the FCRA regime.
