Jowai-Ratacherra road to be repaired by March next year: NHAI tells HC

Shillong, Dec 11: The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has assured that repair of the 45-km damaged portion of the 102-km Jowai-Ratacherra stretch of national highway 6 will be completed by March next year.

The NHAI made the submission before the Meghalaya High Court on Wednesday while also informing the court about completion of repair of 5-km severely damaged portion as per the court order.

The court on November 6 directed the NHAI to repair the 5-km stretch on an emergency basis to provide relief to the commuters.

Hearing a PIL filed by (L) advocate Kynjaimon Amse, the bench comprising Chief Justice IP Mukerji and Justice B Bhattacharjee ordered the Amicus Curiae to inspect the repaired 5-km stretch and submit a report.

“We also direct that repair work for rest of the 45 km should continue towards completion…” the order said.

Meanwhile, the court directed the state government to ensure smooth movement of traffic during the repair work.
