KHADC session: Rs 26 lakh collected from 16 toll gates

Shillong, Mar 27: The Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council (KHADC) has collected over Rs 26 lakh as revenue from 16 toll gates under its jurisdiction during 2024-25.

Informing this while replying to a question in the Council’s budget session on Thursday, executive member (EM) in-charge Winston Tony Lyngdoh said license of seven toll gates would expire on 31 March 2025 while the rest nine have applied for renewal.

The EC will examine the applications, the EM said.

The toll gates charge Rs 500 for heavy vehicles, Rs 300 for medium vehicles and Rs 100 for light vehicles.

To a query, he said there are two check gets each in Ri-Bhoi and East Khasi Hills districts.

The check gate at Umiam is operated by W Ryntathiang and the one at Lum Nongrim Umling by S Surong, Mawryngkneng-Mawkhanu by Shemphang Kharsati, and Majai by Sita Thangkhiew.

Meanwhile, he stated that the EC does not have any information about illegal check gates being operated in areas under Rambrai-Jyrngam constituency.

He assured the House of seeking a report on the matter.
