Shillong, Oct 5: The Khasi Students’ Union (KSU) has sought early release of its arrested leader Pynkmenlang Sanmiet for treatment of a chronic ailment as well as to continue his study.
Sanmiet was arrested along with other KSU leaders following the August-19 violence in Shillong during a KSU bike rally.
The government will be held responsible if anything happens to him, KSU Environmental Secretary Shiningstar Kharbihkhiew told reporters on Monday.
Sanmiet, who suffers from chronic nose-bleeding, was admitted to Civil Hospital on July 11 and was advised surgery at Bethany Hospital in September, he said.
He was taken to hospital on October 3 after his blood pressure became unstable, he added.
The KSU also cited effect on his academic career as he missed mandatory monthly submissions for his PhD in Law at NEHU.
It said the court will hear his bail application on October 6.
“We trust the court to take the best decision for our leaders,” he added.
