Shillong, Oct 5: The state government has ruled out any possibility to seek CBI inquiry into the police raid at Jaiaw in Shillong on the night of August 19, following violence on the streets of Shillong on that day.
Rejecting the demand raised by North Shillong MLA Adelbert Nongrum to probe the police “access”, Deputy Chief Minister in-charge Home (Police) Prestone Tynsong said procedural lapses, if any, can be rectified by the state police itself.
“As of today, we don’t need to go to CBI. Yes, omission or commission may happen sometimes, but this can be corrected,” Tynsong said.
He said he has instructed the police top brass to improve coordination with local authorities before conducting such operations.
“I have asked the DGP and Home (Police) to further improve reaching out to all concerned authorities whenever we plan to do anything,” he said.
“Local authorities are partners, they are part and parcel of maintaining law and order from time to time,” Tynsong added.
