Shillong, Oct 10: The Khasi Students’ Union (KSU) has sought removal of Durga Puja pandals erected along various public roads allegedly, obstructing public movement.
In a letter to the Public Works Department (PWD), the Union said the complaint was submitted following numerous complaints from stakeholders and the public at large.
“These structures have been causing difficulties for the smooth movement of vehicles and pedestrians, particularly in areas where road space is already limited,” the KSU said.
While stating that it understands such temporary structures may be erected for various events and purposes, the Union maintained that public safety cannot be compromised.
Seeking removal of such Puja pandals, the KSU said, “In view of the repeated complaints, we request your esteemed office to kindly look into the matter and take necessary action for the removal of pandal constructions and other temporary structures that are obstructing PWD roads, and to ensure that proper guidelines are followed before permitting such structures on public roads.”
