Man thrown off car at Umiam flyover, dies

Shillong, Apr 29: A person died after the car he was travelling in hit the railing of Umiam Flyover, throwing him out of the vehicle, on Tuesday.

The deceased, Nobin Singh (41) of Mukhla, West Jaintia Hills was sitting on the front passenger seat of the Guwahati-bound Maruti WagonR (ML 05 AC 5114) when the accident took place at 2:35 pm.

He was rushed to Nongpoh Civil Hospital by a 108 ambulance, but succumbed to severe head injuries shortly after, police said.

Two other passengers in the rear seat — Bijoy Singh, the victim’s brother, and Baris Marboh of Puriang – escaped unhurt.

The driver, Gobinda Biswas, from Assam and another occupant were sent for medical examination, while the vehicle was towed to Umiam police station for safe custody.
