MBoSE to conduct SSLC exams twice a year

SHILLONG, AUG 9: Opening a window of opportunity for unsuccessful students to reappear for the board exam within one-two months after they failed the examination, the Meghalaya Board of School Education (MBoSE) has decided to conduct two board examinations in a year.

This decision of the Education department to amend the existing Meghalaya Board of School Education Regulation for Secondary School Leaving Certificate Examination, 2011 was approved during a cabinet meeting chaired by the Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma on Friday.

Announcing this decision, Education Minister Rakkam A Sangma informed reporters after the meeting that with this decision, which is in line with the National Education Policy, MBoSE will be conducting two board examinations in the same academic year from 2025 onwards.

“The first board examination will be held in the month of February or early March and the second examination will be for those who failed in all subjects or one to three subjects. They will be allowed to reappear for the board exam within one-two months’ time within the month of May,” he said.

Rakkam said this has been done to support students as supplementary examinations used to be held after a year resulting in the loss of a year for class X students.

“In order to save the time for students’ admission in the years to come may be in the 2025-2026 academic year, the first board exam will happen in the month of December, may be the third week or fourth week of December 2025. The second board exams will be in February or March, 2026 but for this academic year within February and May we will have two board examinations,” he said.

Meanwhile, the minister also informed that there will be no more optional paper or best of five from 2026-2027 academic year.

“From 2026-2027 academic year all the students must and will have to pass in all the six subjects in the board examination,” he said.
