Shillong, Sept 30: An amendment to the existing agreement with the UN World Food Programme (WFP) was signed in New Delhi on Wednesday, marking an important milestone in the continued partnership to strengthen food security and improve outcomes for the people of Meghalaya.
Meghalaya Commissioner and Secretary, Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs, Pravin Bakshi, signed on behalf of the state government, while WFP India Representative and Country Director Elisabeth Faure signed on behalf of WFP at their India head office. Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs Minister Methodious Dkhar was also present.
The state was represented by FCSCA Director I Mawlong, Under Secretary B Syiemlieh and OSD S K War, while Ankit Sood and Rodrick John represented WFP.
The two sides have been working together since 2022 on strengthening the PDS, optimising supply chains, digital innovation and capacity building.
“The renewed partnership will further promote cooperation, innovation, capacity building and improved food security systems in Meghalaya, contributing to the State’s efforts towards achieving Sustainable Development Goal 2 – Zero Hunger,” the government said.
