Meghalaya Governor felicitates kick-boxing association, NCC cadets

Shillong, Feb 9: Meghalaya Governor CH Vijayashankar on Monday felicitated the players of the All Meghalaya Kick-Boxing Association (AMKA) who will represent the State and the Nation at the prestigious Asia Pacific Open Kickboxing Championship 2026 at Bali, Indonesia from February 24 to 28 and the NCC cadets of Meghalaya who proudly represented the State at the prestigious Republic Day Parade 2026 in New Delhi.

The Governor congratulated the team for their dedication, discipline, and wishes them for a commendable performance on the global stage.

He lauded their hard work and perseverance, stating that their participation in an international tournament of such repute has brought pride and recognition to Meghalaya.

The Governor appreciated the efforts of the All Meghalaya Kick-Boxing Association in nurturing talent across the State and providing a platform for youth to excel in competitive sports.

He emphasized that sports not only build physical strength but also cultivate mental resilience, character, and leadership qualities among young people.

Highlighting the importance of sports in shaping a progressive and confident society, the Governor encouraged the athletes to continue striving for excellence and to serve as role models for aspiring sportspersons in Meghalaya. He also reiterated the need for sustained support and infrastructure development to promote martial arts and other sporting disciplines in the State.

The players expressed their gratitude to the Governor for his encouragement and ensured to give their best the championship held in Bali, Indonesia, which witnessed participation from several countries across the Asia-Pacific region.

The interaction concluded with the Hon’ble Governor extending his best wishes to the athletes for their future endeavors and assuring continued encouragement towards the growth of sports in Meghalaya.

Meanwhile, the felicitation ceremony for NCC cadets was also held at Lok Bhavan, Shillong, in recognition of their outstanding performance, discipline, and dedication.

Congratulating the cadets for their remarkable achievement, the Hon’ble Governor stated that representing Meghalaya at the national level during the Republic Day celebrations is a matter of immense pride and honour for the entire State.

He commended the cadets for their exemplary commitment, rigorous training, and unwavering spirit that enabled them to earn a place in one of the most prestigious national events of the country.

He lauded the NCC for its pivotal role in shaping the youth into responsible citizens and future leaders by inculcating values of unity, patriotism, integrity, and selfless service.

Encouraging the cadets to continue striving for excellence, the Governor emphasized that their journey is an inspiration to young aspirants across Meghalaya. He urged them to uphold the ideals of the NCC and contribute meaningfully to nation-building.

The Governor also appreciated the dedicated efforts of the NCC officers, instructors, and parents who supported and mentored the cadets in their preparation for the Republic Day Parade. He expressed confidence that Meghalaya’s youth will continue to excel and bring laurels to the State in various national forums.
