Land to be allotted at affordable government rate: CM
Shillong, June 30: New Meghalaya Houses will be set up in Maharashtra and Telangana with the respective state authorities already willing to allot land for the purpose.
Disclosing this after a cabinet meeting on Tuesday, Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma said Maharashtra has agreed to allot land for a new Meghalaya House in Navi Mumbai at government rate instead of the prevailing market rate.
Telangana too has committed land for building a Meghalaya House in Hyderabad, he told reporters.
The new facilities would be “public-oriented” and cater primarily to students, patients and other residents travelling to metro cities.
On the facility at Navi Mumbai, the Chief Minister said his Maharashtra counterpart has agreed to his request of allotting the land at government rate, which is Rs 7 crore, instead of the market rate of Rs 90 crore.
“I am sure that this new land, which we are getting in Navi Mumbai, will be of great benefit to our people, and we expect that we will be able to create a larger public area there,” he said.
Informing that he had directed officials to focus on public use of the facility, he said, “This should be more of a public-oriented Meghalaya House, more towards a guest house, more towards allowing students, patients, and other people who require that place to come in.
Stating that the process of land allotment is expected to be completed soon, he said, “But again, this is good news for us.”
Meanwhile, he said Telangana government has also agreed to provide land in Hyderabad.
He recalled that he had met the Chief Minister of Telangana during his recent visit to Hyderabad and placed the request for the land.
Sangma had also written a letter to his Telangana counterpart appealing for land allotment for a Meghalaya House in Hyderabad and noted that the metro city has a large number of people from Meghalaya residing there.
Informing about the positive response from Telangana, he said, “We should be getting the written response very soon.”
Meanwhile, renovation of Meghalaya Houses in Greater Noida and Bangalore will be completed soon while construction of a new Meghalaya House in Vellore will begin soon, he said.
During construction, the existing facility at Vellore would be shifted to a guest house to be taken on rent.
The five new projects under Meghalaya House will greatly benefit the people of the Meghalaya, who often visit these places.
