Meghalaya opens helpline for citizens missing in Nepal floods

Shillong, Aug 27: The Meghalaya government on Thursday issued a public notice seeking information about persons from the state who may be missing or uncontactable in Nepal following the devastating flash flood and mudslide in Rasuwa district near the Nepal-Tibet border on August 26.

The State Disaster Management Authority (SDMA) said the disaster caused extensive damage to villages, roads, bridges and other infrastructure, with a large number of people reported missing or uncontactable.

“In view of the above, information is being sought regarding persons from Meghalaya who may be missing or uncontactable in Nepal,” the SDMA said.

Family members, relatives, friends, travel agencies, tour operators and members of the public having information about any such person have been requested to contact the dedicated helpline 6009924512, emergency numbers 112/1070 and CM Connect 1971.

Callers have been requested to provide name and age of the missing person, contact number, address in Meghalaya, last known location in Nepal, date and time of last communication and name and contact details of the informant.

“The information will be compiled and shared with the concerned authorities for necessary verification and assistance. Public cooperation is earnestly requested,” the SDMA added.
