Shillong, Feb 19: The Meghalaya High Court has acknowledged receipt of the state government’s status report on the recent coal mine tragedy at Mynsngat-Thangsko in East Jaintia Hills claiming 33 lives, and decided to thoroughly examine it before issuing any order.
“A cursory glance shows that the Report is exhaustive and requires a minute examination by this Court, before any further necessary and effective orders are passed, thereon,” stated the division bench comprising Justice HS Thangkhiew and Justice W Diengdoh in its order passed on Thursday.
The court listed the PIL for further hearing on February 24 and directed both the current Superintendent of Police, East Jaintia Hills, Pankaj Rasgania, and his predecessor Vikash Kumar to appear in person.
