Minimum temperatures in Bengal fall by 2-3 deg C: IMD

Kolkata, Nov 25: Minimum temperatures at several places in West Bengal fell by two to three degrees Celsius on Tuesday, while dry weather would prevail over the state for the next one week, the IMD said.

There will not be any large change in minimum temperature for the next two days, but the mercury level will rise by about two degrees Celsius during the subsequent three days, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) said.

Minimum temperatures at several places in West Bengal “fell by two to three degrees Celsius” compared to the previous day’s lowest mercury levels, the IMD data said.

Dry weather will prevail over the districts in West Bengal for the next one week, it said.

The Himalayan tourist town of Darjeeling was the coldest in the state at 7.6 degrees Celsius on Tuesday, it said, adding that the other hill town of Kalimpong’s minimum temperature stood at 11 degrees Celsius.

Kalyani in Nadia district was the coldest in West Bengal’s plains at 12.8 degrees Celsius, the Met data said.

The other places in the state which recorded significantly low minimum temperatures are Alipurduar (13), Suri (13.2 ) and Cooch Behar (13.6), it said.

Kolkata recorded this season’s coldest temperature at 16.4 degrees Celsius, nearly two notches below normal, the IMD said.

The Met forecast mainly clear sky over Kolkata, and said mist or shallow fog may occur in the morning over the metropolis on Wednesday.(PTI)
