MPCC slams Modi govt for ‘misusing’ central agencies

Shillong, Dec 18: The Meghalaya Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) on Wednesday staged a protest at the Congress Bhavan, condemning the BJP’s systematic misuse of central investigative agencies to target the Gandhi family and intimidate political opposition.

Addressing the gathering, MPCC leaders stated that the recent judicial setback for the Enforcement Directorate (ED) in the National Herald case exposes the BJP’s politics of vendetta.

The Special Court at Rouse Avenue, New Delhi, refused to take cognisance of the ED’s prosecution complaint under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act, citing lack of a valid predicate offence.

“The order represents a clear rejection of the case at the threshold and underscores the limits of politically driven prosecutions,” said Lang Kupar War, Chairman, Social Media Department, MPCC.

The Congress party reiterated that Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi have committed no wrongdoing, and the repeated failure of the prosecution to cross basic legal thresholds confirms that the case was driven by political intent rather than legal substance.

“The BJP has followed a predictable pattern—announce raids, amplify allegations, leak selective claims, and run media trials in place of evidence. The National Herald case followed the same script,” the MPCC statement read.

The party reaffirmed its faith in the Constitution and the independence of the judiciary, stating that it will continue to face every challenge with transparency and resolve, focusing on real issues affecting the people of India, such as unemployment, rising prices, agrarian distress, and the weakening of democratic institutions.

“The message is clear: vendetta is not governance, propaganda is not proof, and power cannot override justice,” the MPCC said.
