Success rate in MTET improves by over 60%
Shillong, June 18: Over 16,000 candidates have become eligible for teacher jobs in lower primary (LP) and upper primary (UP) schools as results of Meghalaya Teachers’ Eligibility Test (MTET) were declared on Wednesday.
A total of 8,581 of 13,940 candidates cleared MTET for LP school and 7,674 of total 12,136 became eligible for UP school teacher jobs.
Announcing the results, the Directorate of Educational Research and Training (DERT) said, “The pass percentage has improved from 8.11% in 2023 to 61.56% for lower primary and 9.27% to 63.23% for upper primary, for MTET 2025.”

“61.56% (LP) and 63.23% (UP) pass rates reflect the highest-ever MTET performance in the period from 2019-25,” it added.
It may be mentioned that the significant improvement in candidates’ performance followed a four-month, evidence-based reform initiative by the govenrment.
Recognising the extremely low pass rates of MTET 2023, the DERT’s examination cell undertook a systematic review of the assessment framework, guided by a team of faculty having experience in student measurement and assessments.
The key interventions included: competency-based syllabus redesign, rigorous stakeholder capacity building, transparent assessment blueprints and enhanced validity and reliability.
The MTET pass percentage in 2019 was 16.29% for LP, 20.12% for UP while in 2021, the success rate almost remained same – 15.40% for LP, 26.20% for UP.
