NPP seeks apology from RSS leader for ‘hate speech’

Shillong, Feb 26: The National People’s Party (NPP) has vehemently criticised senior RSS functionary Sunil Deodhar for allegedly making a “hate speech” during the Indigenous Faith Conference at Pynter village in East Khasi Hills.

“(We) express deep concern over the recent divisive hate speech,” NPP spokesperson HM Shangpliang said in a statement on Wednesday.

He said the RSS leader’s comments as “factually incorrect” and “intended to incite hatred and division in the community.”

“It is an attempt to polarize and create tension,” Shangpliang said adding, “We urge everyone to reject such divisive rhetoric and promote unity and harmony.”

He demanded for “an apology and accountability for the inciteful, offensive and baseless speech made by the leader.”

Meanwhile, highlighting Meghalaya’s tradition of tolerance, he added, “As a party we are committed to promoting social cohesion and inclusivity. We will continue to work towards promoting harmony and ensuring that everyone can live together without any fear or intimidation.”

The NPP called on leaders to act responsibly and said, “Leaders have a responsibility to promote peace, tolerance, understanding and unity.”
