NE Infra Summit: City Ppolice announce traffic diversion on June 15-16

Shillong, June 12: East Khasi Hills police have announced traffic diversions for commuters in Shillong on June 15 and 16 on account of North East India Infrastructure Summit & Exhibition 2026 at LARITI, Mawkasiaing and SRGT Parking Lot, Polo.

Union Ministers, VVIPs, delegates and exhibitors from across the North East and beyond will converge in the city on the two days, leading to heavy convoy movement.

To manage the flow, police have asked the public to avoid Umsawli – Mawkasiaing – NEIGRIHMS – Polo road during summit hours.

“Those travelling from Umsawli, Mawkasiaing, NEIGRIHMS and Nongmensong towards Polo are advised to use alternate routes via Mawpat – Golflinks / Langkyrding – Pynthorumkhrah to avoid delays,” Superintendent of Police Vivek Syiem said on Friday.

On June 15, ‘No Entry’ will be enforced at Lumjingshai junction. Vehicles heading to Forest Colony or CRPF junction will be redirected through Lawmali – Polo and beyond to keep the Polo area accessible for delegates.

“The cooperation and understanding of all citizens are solicited in ensuring the successful conduct of this important regional event. Inconvenience caused is highly regretted,” Syiem added.

According to the SP, major vehicular movement is expected along Polo-Mawkasiaing stretch due to VVIP movement. He urged commuters to plan travel accordingly.
