NEHU lodges FIR, seeks probe into ‘accident’

Shillong, Nov 18: The North-Eastern Hill University (NEHU) has lodged an FIR in connection with the incident of reckless driving that gravely injured two Chemistry department students on the campus. The University has also sought a detailed probe into the incident.

“The University strongly condemns the reckless driving that resulted in this tragic event. An FIR has been filed, and the concerned section of the University has been instructed to prepare and submit a detailed report at the earliest,” said a statement issued on Tuesday.

The two injured female students are currently receiving treatment in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of Nazareth Hospital.

The University has extended its support and sympathy to the injured students and their families, and is in contact with them.

Meanwhile, the NEHU has appealed to the media and public to delete and remove any video footage or images of the accident circulating on social media, citing the profound distress and psychological trauma caused to the victims’ families and the student community.

“We urge everyone to act with sensitivity, empathy, and respect by refraining from sharing and removing any such content,” the statement added.

The University has assured cooperation with law enforcement and hospital authorities.
