Regional committees face difficulties in filing report on Block I & II, Langpih
Shillong, May 29: The next round of chief minister-level talks on the second phase of Meghalaya-Assam dialogue on inter-state boundary dispute will be held on June 2 amid apprehension of more challenges in the offing.
Three disputed areas – Block I, Block II and Langpih – are likely to draw attention in the meeting between chief minister Conrad K Sangma and his Assam counterpart Himanta Biswa Sarma as the regional committees formed in this regard are yet to submit their reports due to difficulties faced in the three areas.
Informing about the progress made by the two states in the finding out a solution to the long-pending boundary dispute, chief secretary DP Wahlang said, “We are continuing the talks and the next chief minister level meeting is on June 2.”

However, he said, the three regional committees have not yet submitted the reports for phase-II because “it is a little complicated when it comes to Block I, Block II and Langpih”.
“They (regional committees) need more time and we have granted them the time,” Wahlang said.
He also informed that the next CM level talks to be held in Guwahati on June 2 will primarily try to sort out all the differences that came to the fore during the Phase I and Phase II dialogues.
On the demand for retransferring back Block I & II to Meghalaya, the chief secretary said, “That will all be part of the agenda that we will discuss with Assam. I cannot say anything at individual level now but when we have the meetings at the CM level as well as the official level, these are the issues that will be discussed and deliberated.”
