Shillong, June 23: No vehicle owner has lodged any complaint about ethanol-blended fuel in Meghalaya, said Deputy Chief Minister in-charge Transport Sniawbhalang Dhar while allaying fears about the fuel causing damage to vehicles.
Speaking to reporters on Tuesday, Dhar said the introduction of ethanol-blended fuel is a “trial process” and that it was premature to judge its impact on vehicles and consumers.
The government would assess the fuel’s performance before taking any decision, he said.
Dhar also pointed out at the relatively lower price of ethanol-blended fuel benefitting the public.
“It is a trial process… every new initiative needs a trial. Since the rate is a little lower, it should be okay for the people,” Dhar said.
Asked if the ethanol-blended fuel is bad for vehicle engines, he said Transport department has not received any formal complaint from vehicle owners in this regard.
“Let them complain to me officially so that I will know when to call a meeting,” he said.
