No more midnight marathons to Shillong for aspirants: CM launches Tura MPSC Hub – First exam in 6 Days!

Tura, Nov 8: In a bold step aimed at slashing the grueling 10-15 hour overnight journeys to Shillong for job applicants of the region, Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma today inaugurated the state-of-the-art Meghalaya Public Service Commission (MPSC) office at Dakopgre, Tura, West Garo Hills.

The facility will host full-fledged examinations, interviews, and recruitment drives and the first examination from this centre will take place on November 14, 2025. The chief minister said that the government is eyeing similar centers in Jaintia Hills for statewide equity.

Flanked by Meghalaya Assembly Speaker Thomas A. Sangma, West Garo Hills Deputy Commissioner Vibhor Agarwal, senior MPSC officials, including Tura Chairman Abraham T. Momin, the CM declared that this office would henceforth be “one of the most important inaugurations” for youth empowerment, ending fatigue-induced exam setbacks and unlocking local talent.

Addressing the gathering, Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma recalled the immense challenges faced by the youth of Garo Hills, who previously had to endure 10- to 15-hour overnight journeys to Shillong for MPSC examinations. “Many would arrive tired and go straight to the exam hall without rest,” he said, noting that fatigue and inadequate preparation time often hampered candidates’ performance. “With this new facility, students can now give their exams and interviews right here in Tura.”

He described the inauguration as one of the most impactful for the state’s youth, stating, “The impact that this office will have on the youth and their future will be immense, and it gives a great sense of satisfaction to inaugurate this office today.”

The chief minister broke the news to the thousands of aspiring candidates from the region that the first MPSC examination at the Tura facility will be conducted on November 14, 2025.

In sync with the chief minister, Speaker Thomas A Sangma called the event a “landmark moment that heralds a new chapter in the journey of transparent, accountable, and people-centric governance.”

The new MPSC office will host examinations, interviews, and other recruitment activities locally, eliminating long-distance travel to the state capital thereby giving much needed relief for candidates from Garo Hills.
