Shillong, Aug 24: In the wake of the blockades imposed by transporters and taxi associations in Meghalaya and Assam, the state police have appointed a nodal officer to ensure free movement of vehicles and people between the two states.
DySP (Security) B Nongsiej, who has been designated as the nodal officer, has been tasked to coordinate with all districts in Meghalaya and with counterparts in Assam to facilitate smooth transit.
Meanwhile, the police have shared contact numbers of nodal officers and control rooms of both states, including SP (Zonal) Assam Rajendra Ojah (9707081768), DySP (Security) Meghalaya B Nongsiej (9863060830), and the SB Control Room, Shillong (9774618462) and Control Room, Assam (9181014888), to streamline coordination.
Details of vehicles stranded in Assam and Meghalaya will be shared with Meghalaya SB Control Room in Shillong, which will forward the information to the concerned district police for providing assistance and escorts, according to an official order.
All district Superintendents of Police in Meghalaya have been directed to remain in touch with Assam Police for providing escorts to vehicles and people proceeding towards Assam and for vehicles coming from Assam into Meghalaya.
