Shillong, June 9: The National People’s Party (NPP), under the leadership of its National President Conrad K. Sangma, successfully conducted its National Committee Meeting and Annual General Meeting (AGM) at Orchid Resort, Mawkasiang, New Shillong Township on Monday.
The National Committee Meeting, the apex decision-making body of the party, was attended by senior leaders, office bearers, and MLAs from Meghalaya, Manipur, and Nagaland. Key discussions focused on the political roadmap, organisational strengthening, and upcoming electoral strategies across the Northeast and beyond.
During the AGM, the party adopted a series of resolutions aimed at strengthening democratic participation, promoting peace and reconciliation in the Northeast, safeguarding indigenous rights, and accelerating inclusive development under the vision of “Northeast 2047: Gateway to Prosperity.”
A key highlight of the AGM was the resolution calling for a transparent, time-bound, and consultative FCRA framework, balancing national security concerns with the need to enable genuine civil society organisations to effectively serve communities, particularly in underserved regions.
The AGM also reaffirmed the party’s commitment to:
• Strengthening youth and women leadership
• Promoting sustainable and equitable development
• Enhancing inter-state collaboration in the Northeast
• Expanding the party’s organisational base across India with a focus on ethical and accountable governance
Conrad K. Sangma, National President of NPP, said: “The resolutions adopted today reflect our commitment to a people-centric approach in governance. Every decision we take must be guided by one principle, whether it serves the people. That is the foundation of our party’s vision and growth.”
On the Northeast’s role in national development, he added: “The Northeast is central to India’s future. With the right policies and inclusive development, the region can emerge as a gateway to prosperity and growth for the entire nation.”
Speaking on the current political scenario, he remarked: “Despite challenges, especially in states like Manipur, we see opportunities to strengthen our presence. We are committed to working at the grassroots level and engaging with people to bring stability, development, and representation.”
On organisational growth, he noted: “The growing participation from states across India reflects the increasing trust people have in the National People’s Party. We are confident of expanding our footprint beyond the Northeast in the coming years.”
The party also reviewed its electoral preparedness and upcoming political engagements, including:
• The upcoming by-election to the Lok Sabha in Meghalaya, where NPP has fielded a strong candidate
• Expected elections to the Garo Hills Autonomous District Council
• Preparations for the Manipur Assembly elections, with a focus on strengthening grassroots presence
The National President emphasised the need for increased engagement in Manipur and encouraged regular visits by party leaders to reinforce organisational strength and morale.
The meeting concluded with a vote of thanks, acknowledging the efforts of party leaders, office bearers, and members for successfully organising the meetings and contributing to the party’s steady growth.
Reaffirming its motto of “One Voice, One Northeast,” the National People’s Party expressed confidence in continuing its journey of growth and service to the nation.
Additional presentations during the meeting included a detailed session on the Uniform Civil Code by MLA and National Secretary Dr. Ampareen Lyngdoh. A presentation on revisiting Article 371 in the Northeast was delivered by Manipur MLA Shri M. Rameshwar Singh.
National General Secretary (Political), Shri Mmhonlumo Kikon, presented the political resolutions adopted by the party, while National Working President Shri James K. Sangma presented the Action Taken Report.
During the AGM, state units presented their annual reports, highlighting key activities and interventions to strengthen the party. Frontal organisations, including the National People’s Youth Front (NPYF), National People’s Women Front (NPWF), and National People’s Farmers Front (NPFF), also presented their reports, outlining efforts to expand the party’s reach and engagement across the region.
National General Secretary (Organisation), Paknga Bage, also briefed the National Committee on various organisational interventions undertaken by the party to streamline activities and strengthen coordination across states. He highlighted efforts to enhance internal functioning, improve communication between party units, and ensure more structured implementation of programmes at the grassroots level, aimed at building a more efficient and cohesive organisational framework.
The presence of party members from more than 14 states at the AGM underscored the diversity, inclusivity, and growing national footprint of the National People’s Party.
