Electors to be given adequate time to attend hearings with documents
Shillong, Aug 25: Chief Electoral Officer Dr BDR Tiwari on Tuesday said 1,65,222 SIR notices are yet to be sent out, while 4,78,217 have been delivered.
Chairing an online meeting on the progress of Special Intensive Revision (SIR) with DCs, DEOs, EROs and AEROs, Tiwari directed officials to provide adequate time for electors to attend hearings.
He also instructed them to expedite the remaining notices at the earliest. Districts with high pendency were asked to monitor at polling station and BLO level.
The CEO said 62,343 hearings have been held so far – 9.69% of identified cases – and stressed that no name in the draft roll will be deleted without notice, inquiry and fair hearing.
The meeting noted that hearings in 14 Assembly constituencies of East Khasi Hills have been cancelled till further orders due to law-and-order situation, except Shella, Pynursla and Sohra. Fresh dates will be communicated.
As per data, 6,51,644 cases need verification – 2,22,786 under No Mapping and 4,28,858 with mapping discrepancies such as name or parent name mismatch with 2005 SIR, abnormal age gaps between parents, siblings and grandparents.
A total of 5,848 claims and objections were received after draft publication, including 2,840 inclusions, 2,250 corrections, 503 shifting and 255 objections for deletion.
On grievance redressal, 2,729 calls were booked through ‘Book a Call with BLO’, of which 2,502 were responded to.
Tiwari reiterated that eligible electors whose names are missing from draft can still apply through Form 6 till September 4. The final roll will be published on October 7.
