Panel asked to select names for Meghalaya Lokayukta

Shillong, Apr 9: The state government has asked the search committee constituted for selection of new chairperson and members of the Meghalaya Lokayukta to submit the panel names for appointment within 30-45 days.

“We have requested the search committee headed by former IAS officer Peter Dkhar to complete the process at the earliest. We expect names to be submitted within 30-45 days,” Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma told reporters after chairing a cabinet meeting on Tuesday.

The names selected by the committee will be further discussed by the main committee chaired by chief minister with members, including speaker, deputy chief minister, leader of opposition and chief justice of Meghalaya.

Meanwhile, the cabinet on Tuesday approved the amendment of the rules for the search committee by increasing the sitting allowances of its chairman and the members.

The honorarium for committee members has been enhanced from Rs 2,500 to Rs 5,000 and for chairman Rs 3,000 to Rs 6,000 per sitting.
