Petrol bomb hurled at MSPCB office

No injuries in attack ** Police hunt for two masked men

Shillong, Aug 3: In a shocking attack, two masked miscreants hurled a petrol bomb at the office of Meghalaya State Pollution Control Board (MSPCB) Lumpyngngad in Shillong on Monday.

The incident caused panic in the city as police threw a tight security blanket around the MSPCB office.

Police launched an investigation into the incident immediately after Laitumkhrah police station registered a case in this regard.

CCTV footages from the area are being checked and a manhunt for the two suspects has been launched.

In the incident, the two masked men riding a scooter entered the MSPCB premises around 12 noon and threw the petrol bomb, East Khasi Hills SP Vivek Syiem said.

The device struck the outer wall, causing discoloration. No injuries or casualties were reported.

“Immediately upon receiving information, police personnel rushed to the spot. The Crime Scene Unit was called to the site to collect evidence and document the scene,” Syiem said.

Police are making all efforts to identify and arrest the culprits involved in the incident, he said.

Asked if the incident was connected to a recent protest regarding the public hearing for a cement plant, SP (City) Dangsan Khyriem said, “I do not know. That is part of the investigation.”
