Police foil abduction attempt in North Garo Hills, businessman rescued; Three Arrested

Resubelpara, April 27: A swift and coordinated operation by North Garo Hills District Police led to the rescue of an abducted businessman and the arrest of three accused in connection with the crime on April 25.

According to police, the incident came to light at around 3:00 PM when Bajengdoba Police Station received credible inputs from residents in the Bolsong area about unidentified individuals abducting a businessman in a silver Ertiga tourist vehicle.

Acting immediately, a police team set up a naka (checkpoint) at Mansinggre. Within half an hour, at approximately 3:30 PM, the suspect vehicle was intercepted along with the victim’s motorcycle, which was being ridden by one of the accused. Upon inspection, the abducted businessman was found inside the vehicle and was safely rescued.

Preliminary investigation revealed that the accused had intercepted the victim along the Bolsong–Agia road. They allegedly forced him to stop, snatched his motorcycle key and mobile phone, demanded his trading licence, and searched him before robbing ₹7.3 lakh in cash. The victim was then forcibly taken inside the vehicle, while one of the accused followed on his motorcycle. His cries for help alerted local villagers, who promptly informed the police.

The three accused have been identified as Tenggra Ch. Marak alias Togan (36), Dipon D. Sangma (38), and Lovingson R. Marak (33), all residents of different parts of the Garo Hills region.

During interrogation, the prime accused, Tenggra Ch. Marak, claimed links with an organisation named United Garo People’s Forum, though police are verifying the claim.
A case has been registered at Bajengdoba Police Station under multiple sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), and further investigation is underway.

Police officials reiterated their zero-tolerance stance against criminal activities, including those carried out under the guise of NGOs. Authorities also urged the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities to the nearest police station or control room for support.
