Police suspect suicide in death of two youth

Shillong, June 15: East Khasi Hills Superintendent of Police Vivek Syiem on Monday said the deaths of two Hajong youths whose bodies were found in a shed at Lumsohphoh appear to be suicide, but the final cause will be confirmed only after the post-mortem report is received.

Syiem said police received information at 7 am on Sunday, June 14, “that two bodies inside a shed at Lumsohphoh besides the Shillong-Jowai road and that these bodies were found with rope tied to the necks.”

“Immediately officers and staff from Laitumkhrah Police Station rushed to the place of occurrence and cordoned the area, forensic were called, senior police from the district also reached the place of occurrence and examined the place of occurrence,” he told reporters.

He said no external injuries were found. “No injuries were found on the bodies, the forensic team was there and examine all possibilities whether it was suicide or otherwise, inquest conducted has indicated that all indications of suicide however the same will be confirm after post mortem is done and receives.”

An unnatural death case has been registered at Laitumkhrah Police Station.

“We have registered an unnatural death case on the matter in Laitumkhrah Police Station. So once the post mortem report is received and confirm suicide or otherwise, accordingly district police will proceed with investigation. Let’s hope by a week’s time, we will get the report,” Syiem said.

The SP described it as “partial suicide” based on initial findings, noting “all indication of suicide and there is no injury to body, so that is the circumstance that we have ascertain as of now, but that will be confirm when we receive the post mortem.”

On the background of the deceased, Syiem said, “The couple was in a relationship, both work in the same locality, and we are yet to ascertain what made them take this drastic step. There is nothing as such that parents oppose both of them being from the same community and same district, there is no opposition from the parents, we are investigating as to why they take this drastic step.”
