4 petrol bombs hurled on Govt offices in less than 12 hours
Shillong, Sept 17: Four serial incidents of petrol bomb attacks on government establishments within a span of less than 12 hours have the city police into a tizzy, prompting them to step up security across Shillong.
“Instances of arson have happened — one at DMR and then one at Lumdiengjri police station, one at DHS and one more in traffic beat in Nongmynsong,” East Khasi Hills SP in-charge Traffic, Hari Prasanth MR said on Thursday.
Two incidents were reported on Wednesday – at DMR around 3:30 pm and Lumdiengjri police station at 9:45 pm – while two more happened on early Thursday morning – one at DHS at 3 am and Nongmynsong traffic beat at 3:30 am.
The SP said foot patrolling and vehicle checking have been intensified and extra forces deployed, especially at secluded offices.
“We have taken measures. We have increased the foot patrolling. We have increased our car checking. We have put extra forces. We have also reached out to all the offices and instructed them on what the requirements are. So we are more prepared than what we were before,” Prasanth said.
He said an investigation is under way.
“We are looking into all the CCTV footage. We are examining all those. We have called a few people and we have interrogated them. We have found a few people. We are just checking their location,” he added.
