
Tura, April 5: This year’s SSLC exams have been phenomenal for the Garo Hills region with a whooping 18 students from schools across towns and rural areas emerging victorious in what is dubbed one of the most complex exams of the year.

What makes this year’s results even more unique and stunning was how the long-overlooked town of Phulbari emerged from obscurity to outshine the entire Garo Hills region, with one of its own securing the coveted 2nd position in the state after years of flying under the radar.

Pori Pandey of Jawaharlal Nehru Higher Secondary School in Phulbari was the star of this year’s SSLC examinations as she turned out to be the highest rank holder from across the five districts of Garo Hills.

And there was more to come. A total of 18 students, including eight girls, from the Garo Hills bagged a position in the state’s Top Twenty rank.

From 2nd rank holder Pori Panday of Phulbari town’s Jawaharlal Nehru Higher Secondary School to Esthar D Shira of Sherwood School in 5th rank, Mahendraganj Higher Secondary School’s Mahir Islam- also jointly holding the 5th rank in the state, to Ian Dongkam M Marak of Tura Casarina Public School and Bathsheba Ch Sangma of St. Xavier’s Higher Secondary School, Tura jointly sharing the 6th rank, the rank holders have been exceptional.

Trishita Koch of Embee Rosebud Higher Secondary School Tura and Algaro Thardy M Marak of Dalu border town’s St. Joseph Secondary School jointly secured the 8th rank.

There was more surprise in store from the plain belt region of Phulbari with Bholarbhita Janapriya Higher Secondary School student Musa Kazi also sharing the 8th rank, while another student of Jawaharlal Nehru Higher Secondary School-Abu Towfique Mondal getting placed in the 9th state rank.

Tura Sherwood School’s Shreyan Sarker secured the 12th rank, jointly sharing it with another student- Umalizie D Sangma of Loyola Secondary School, Dawagre Williamnagar.
Two other students of Sherwood School, Tura, Aritra Paul and Pranjal Mishra jointly shared the 13th rank.

Aeroville Higher Secondary School Tura student Afchica Viesa D. Marak and Ankit Mondol of Sherwood School were ranked 16th in the state, Trivayan Hajong of Sherwood School and Aganchi K Sanbgma of Williamnagar’s Green Yard Secondary School jointly sharing the 17th position, and Rehan Mahammed of Jawaharlal Nehru Higher Secondary School, Phulbari securing the 19th berth in the top twenty positions of the state.
