Shillong, Sept 16: United Democratic Party chief Metbah Lyngdoh on Wednesday hinted at possible action against West Shillong MLA Paul Lyngdoh for alleged anti-party activities, following his recent statements questioning the leadership.
Speaking to reporters, Metbah said the party has taken note of the remarks.
“One of the MLAs of the party has given some statement which is very much against the party and we are taking note of it and we will sit and see what decision as a party we will take in due course of time,” he said.
Paul Lyngdoh had recently claimed that former leaders like Bindo M Lanong, Jemino Mawthoh and Ardent Basaiawmoit left the UDP under Metbah’s leadership, questioning his capability to lead the party.
Responding to this, the UDP president said, “Well, I need not respond to that question. It will be better for others to do that on my behalf, perhaps it will be appropriate. For me talking big about myself, I think others will not like and I will also usually avoid doing these kinds of things.”
Defending his tenure, Metbah added, “Whether as a president of the party or whether as an MLA of my constituency, whether as a minister of the government, any kind of role and responsibility assigned to me, I will ensure that I perform and deliver to the expectation of those who have put in whatever capacity and this is with all honesty and sincerity I will try to do the best I could.”
