Shillong, Jan 22: BJP leader and cabinet minister Sanbor Shullai has urged the people of Garo Hills to give the party a chance in the upcoming Garo Hills Autonomous District Council elections, citing the developmental works done by Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s government.
“We have seen within a short span of 10 years, be it in the entire country or our Meghalaya state, due to the support of Modi and all union ministers, people should see what was happening 46 years ago and now. Within 10 years since formation of MDA I and II, people have witnessed lots of developmental schemes especially in the road communication, highways and other developments even in my constituency also, and in New Shillong, so many projects are coming up,” Shullai said.
He emphasized the party’s focus on development, especially in road communication, highways, and other infrastructure projects.
Shullai expressed confidence that the BJP would win 8-10 seats in the GHADC elections and appealed to voters to give the party at least 20 seats to form the government.
“Regarding the ideology of the party, let the people judge but only one message I want to send through you that the time is right for the people of our state that they should be farsighted, they should look at the good works done by the Prime Minister Narendra Modiji and our government in Delhi. This time in the upcoming district council elections, I appeal to all the people especially voters who are our brothers, sisters, senior citizens and youth of Garo Hills to give a chance to the BJP. They should give us at least 20 seats to form the government and I assure you along with the executive committee of the district council we work more for the development and to generate employment for the youth of our state,” he said adding “Our government has recently moved such a comprehensive employment generation scheme where 3000 youth will be employed in the police department.”
He informed that the BJP is actively identifying candidates for the GHADC elections, aiming to contest a majority of the constituencies.
“So my duty is that once they give green signal as MLA I will go and step in each and every constituency and I will campaign aggressively for our candidates,” Shullai assured.
Meanwhile, Shullai also expressed confidence that his party will be voted back to power in the upcoming Assam elections.
“This time also, we are sweeping and we are forming the government in Assam. There is no doubt he (Himanta Biswa Sarma) will come back as chief minister of Assam,” Shullai told reporters on Thursday.
Shullai’s remarks come amid the BJP’s aggressive campaign in Assam, with Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma predicting a “clean sweep” in the 2026 Assembly elections.
