SIR in EK Hills: Voters urged to respond to notices

Shillong, Aug 14: Electoral Roll Observer (ERO) RM Kurbah has cautioned voters who received notices due to discrepancies in the draft roll to appear before the concerned ERO and AERO with relevant documents.

“Electors who have been issued notices for appearance due to discrepancies should take the notice seriously and appear with all relevant documents,” she said at a review meeting on the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls here on Friday.

Addressing EROs, AEROs and representatives of political parties at the meeting also attended by District Election Officer Abhilash Baranwal, the ERO lauded the East Khasi Hills district election machinery for preparing the draft rolls.

She also thanked political parties for their support and sought cooperation during the hearing of claims and objections to ensure no eligible voter is left out.

She added that she will visit various Assembly Constituencies during the claims and objections period.

A detailed presentation on SIR progress was given by R Wahlang, Deputy District Election Officer.

Political party representatives pledged support to the election machinery for a smooth completion of the revision.
