Sohtun for introduction of goods train

Shillong, Oct 7: Cabinet Minister Sosthenes Sohtun said he is in favor of the railway project if it is specifically for goods trains.

He however emphasized the importance of stakeholder consultation, suggesting that a collective approach would be beneficial in addressing concerns and finding a mutually beneficial solution.

“I am clear, I am for goods train. I opt for that but that also it depends on the stakeholders…,” Sohtun told reporters on Monday.

The minister stated that different stakeholders have varying opinions on the project, which is natural given the diverse perspectives involved. He stressed the need for stakeholders to come together and share their views, points, and opinions to find common ground.

When asked, Sohtun said that he would gather more information on the project from the Deputy Commissioner of Ri Bhoi.
