Shillong, August 19: East Khasi Hills district administration on Wednesday carried out a special drive to remove dangling and improperly laid overhead cable wires from key stretches of the city, following directions from Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma.
Teams worked in the areas around the DC Office, IGP Point and Raj Bhavan where multiple cables were found hanging in a tangled, unorganized manner.
Officials said the messy wiring was affecting the city’s appearance and raising safety and public inconvenience concerns.
The drive is part of a larger push to improve urban aesthetics, ensure public safety, and bring order to utility infrastructure in Shillong.
The administration has also asked all concerned agencies, service providers and cable operators to properly arrange and maintain their cables, and to remove unused or abandoned wires.
Officials added that similar drives will be taken up in other identified locations across the city in the coming days to make public spaces cleaner, safer and more orderly.
