Shillong, Oct 23: SSA teachers up to the age of 45 years will now be able take part in recruitment process for teachers in government-run LP, UP, secondary and higher secondary schools.
The government decision taken in a cabinet meeting at Resubelpara came in the wake of a 21-day-long strike by a group of SSA teachers, who suspended the strike following government assurance to increase their salary. The agitating group was demand 100% pay hike.
However, the decision to relax the upper age limit is seen as a step to secure the services of Samagra Shiksha Abhiyan (SSA) teachers, which was the demand for another group of SSA teachers. This group did not take part in the strike but served a two-month ultimatum to the government to frame a policy in this regard.
Briefing reporters after the cabinet meeting, education minister Rakkam A Sangma said, “The teachers already serving as SSA teachers will be allowed to participate in the recruitment examinations advertised for Govt LP, UP or secondary and higher secondary schools till the age of 45 years.”
