State officer, personnel honoured with meritorious service Medal

Shillong, Aug 14: An officer and one personnel of the Meghalaya Civil Defence & Home Guards Department  were awarded the Meritorious Service Medal (MSM) on the occasion of the 79th Independence Day of India.

As per an official communication received from the Ministry of Home Affairs on the eve of the 79th Independence Day, Badalyne Kharkongor, Divisional Commandant of Home Guards,  Shillong Home Guards Division and Naik Parsing Ch Marak, Central Training Institute of Civil Defence & Home Guards were awarded the Meritorious Service Medal from the Civil Defence & Home Guards Department of the State.

It may be stated that as per Notification Nos. 88-Pres/2023, 89-Pres/2023, 90-Pres/2023 and

91-Pres/2023 dated 14.10.2023 from the President’s Secretariat, the service medals and gallantry medals of four organizations namely the Police, Fire Service, Home Guard & Civil Defence and Correctional Service were merged into four separate medals which means that the same service or gallantry medal will be awarded to officers and personnel from the four organization.

The Presidential notification has done away with organization specific medals.
