State to host 39th National Games

Indian Olympic Association, Centre give green light

Shillong, Feb 10: Meghalaya has officially been approved to host the 39th National Games in 2027 following a nod from the Indian Olympic Association (IOA) and the Central Government.

State Sports Minister, Shakliar Warjri confirmed on Sunday that the government had received official communication regarding the decision.

“In December, I had a meeting with Union Sports Minister Mansukh Mandaviya in Delhi. Under the leadership of Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma, we have now received a formal letter approving Meghalaya as the host for the National Games,” Warjri stated.

He asserted that the event will be a major boost for young athletes in the state, encouraging them to make the most of this opportunity. “The government and I are committed to working hard for our sports-loving youth, and we hope they will take full advantage of this platform,” he added.

Additionally, the Sports Minister took the opportunity to congratulate Meghalaya’s young athletes for their outstanding performances at the ongoing National Championships in Uttarakhand, where they have won multiple medals, bringing pride to the state.
