State urges Centre to restore BAD prog

Shillong, Feb 10: The state government has made an appeal to the Centre for resumption of the Border Area Development (BAD) programme.

“We have requested the government of India to reconsider (its decision) for continuation of the BAD programme,” said BAD minister Rakkam A Sangma on Monday.

Informing that Centrally funded programme in 90:10 pattern was discontinued in 2021 due to various reasons, the minister said it played a crucial role in improving border infrastructure be it schools, hospitals, roads and bridges.

However, inter-state programme for construction of roads, community hall, school buildings, etc., are still continuing, he said.

Asked, he said scholarship for students from border areas will continue.
