GTCC finalises list of sports disciplines for National Games

Shillong, Oct 3: The state government has urged the Centre to expedite formation of the Games Technical Conduct Committee (GTCC) for the 39th National Games 2027 and to provide additional financial assistance.

The GTCC is crucial as it finalizes the list of sports disciplines to be included in the National Games, which will allow the host state to start infrastructure and logistical planning in earnest.

Sports and Youth Affairs Minister Wailadmiki Shylla raised the issues during a meeting with Union Youth Affairs and Sports Minister Dr Mansukh Mandaviya at his official residence in New Delhi on Saturday.

Shylla was accompanied by Meghalaya State Olympic Association (MSOA) President John Kharshiing.

The meeting came right after Shylla’s exposure visit to the 20th Asian Games in Aichi-Nagoya, Japan.

“We discussed key preparations for the 39th National Games Meghalaya 2027, including the need for the IOA to constitute the GTCC at the earliest. This will help us determine the sporting disciplines and plan effectively.”

On funding, the Minister said the Union Minister was receptive to the state’s request.

“We requested additional financial support from the Ministry. He has asked us to submit further documentation and assured that a meeting with sports officials and IOA representatives will be arranged,” Shylla said.
